This website is very touching. Never have I seen photos of a people and a city once breathing and moving with the vibrancy of civilization. Fun and enjoyment and many adventures - all frozen in time, of past history.
I am so proud of the British, for what they have done for Aden. And I cannot deny the fact that when I visited Aden it appeared to me as a silent aging city slowly degrading with the passing of time. Aden's glory was in the past, long forgotten by the world, and only those who remember her golden days lament the great stories they would remember of their experiences in and around Aden.
I am saddened that Aden today could not be what it was supposed to be - The Gem of the Middle East. It was because of the British that Aden was then the Pearl of the Mid East. But now as I sadly admit the truth, even at the very young age of 21, the consequences of losing such an important ally as Britain caused the people of Aden to reduce their great city to the rubble of Communism. And for decades, Aden bled even until the Unity of the two Yemens.
Today, Aden is healing from it's wounds. It's potential is remarkable, but its current corrupt regime will never open the doors of prosperity for the benefit of the people and Aden. This regime sees fit that they and their children benefit firstly of the treasures of Yemen. And as the Arab proverb goes: "As you judge, so shall you be judged." Indeed, the people of Aden judged wrongly against Britain, and lost a great benefactor - hence the judgment upon the people of Aden is evident by the horrible widespread poverty that seems far from ending.
I smile when I see these wonderful vibrant pictures of Old Aden, which to me looks new. It's really touching, how the British lived wonderfully in our Aden. Who could forget the warm, if not too hot, sunny days? The clean sea air across the beautiful beaches continue to appeal to the commonality. The modernity of Britain upon Aden was so appealing. My father told me stories of his adventures in Aden during the British rule. He always positively gave wonderful details of in and around Aden and the wonders that the British did for the sake of Aden. How much I loved to hear these stories from my father. But I must truly say that I regret that Aden lost Britain. And though some of you may lament of those good days in Aden - I lament that Aden lost Britain.
By the way - many of you who used to live in the golden days of Aden Protectorate should really make the effort to go and visit Aden! Britons who were born in Aden are rightfully entitled to visit their home as well. Aden is home to all...I'm sure visiting Aden will initially bring back MORE memories of good times. Wow, I'm actually weeping here! You people make me too sad!! Well, I really must be going! Please keep up the good work on this website! Oh! One more thing! VIDEOS, you guys need videos of Aden and historical videos that talk about Aden! As well as interviews, AUDIO/VIDEO of British Adenis. Again, keep up the good work, this website is beautiful!
