The Duke of Gloucester Visits (1956-1960. Exact date not yet known)

The Duke & Duchess of Gloucester arrived at R.A.F. Khormaksar for a 2-day visit on their way from Somaliland. They were met by the Governor, Sir William Luce, Miss Diana Luce, Air Vice-Marshall M. L. Heath, Air Officer Commanding British Forces, and other dignitaries.

The R.A.F. mounted a guard of honour and the national anthem was played by the band of the 1st Battalion, the Buffs.

The Duchess was wearing a printed silk dress, a blue hat, and carried a pink parasol. Following the welcome ceremonies His Royal Highness the Duke & the Duchess drove to Government House at Ras Tarshyne where an evening dinner party was being prepared. The Duke of Gloucester had previously visited Aden in 1945 arriving on 2nd January to a mounted Guard Of Honour by the Aden Protecorate Levies. Tribal dancers had entertained the royal party at the Tawila Tanks that night.
